SMUT SLAM

Smut Slam is a global network of community dirty storytelling open-mics, featuring real-life first-person sex stories from the audience themselves. How is that possible? I don’t know, but every time, in every city I’ve ever slammed smut, audience members DO come forward to tell their own dirty stories. It’s pure magic, and it blows my fucking MIND.

Smut Slam boasts local celebrities as judges and exciting prizes and the Fuckbucket (anonymous questions and confessions); we set it up so there really is a way for everyone to participate, if they want. We also have a strong Code of Conduct, which we enforce, so yeah, that’s one of the things that helps audience members feel safer.

I started Smut Slam in Boston in 2011, got it going in Montreal later that same year, and have since traveled with it all over North America, the UK, Australasia, and continental Europe. We now have 17 chapters around the world, from Melbourne to Ottawa. Smut Slam hosts every are all exceptionally talented and sex-positive emcees and performers in their own right; under my coaching, these hosts all work toward the same Smut Slam goal: to facilitate an encouraging, fun, open space where audiences of all types and amounts of sexual experience can share their own stories.

I get a bit uncomfortable in public situations involving strangers discussing their sexual experiences, yet I’ve seen Smut Slam in NYC and Edinburgh on several occasions. Why? Because it’s a safe space for both performers and audience members. Because it’s sexy and funny. Because the hosts are a pure joy. I’ve been entertained, intrigued, and mostly enlightened at this show every time. The various stories I’ve experienced at Smut Slam are deep down just stories about the human condition. This show brings humans together in a way that many storytelling shows don’t even come close to. I will be going again. Or is it “coming again”?

Smut Slam is a great experience to include in your festival, conference, university programming. I am available for booking in Europe and the UK; for other regions, please check out this list of local chapters and upcoming one-off Slams: www.smutslam.com

Smut Slam is a place where people can be shameless, in the most positive, radical self-acceptance sense of the word. I can’t tell you how many first-time Smut Slam attendees I’ve seen come in shy, bashful, and all ‘oh, I don’t have any stories,’ only to go up on stage by the end of the night.
